Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Worker - Bouctouche

The Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services of New Brunswick Inc. (MCFSNB) is seeking an individual to join their team as a Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Worker in Bouctouche.

The Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Worker provides developmentally appropriate early learning programming that supports the holistic development and well-being of Mi’gmaq children in a safe, nurturing, and culturally grounded environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate early learning programs and activities that support children’s cognitive, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual development;

• Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports children’s development, well-being, and natural curiosity;

• Use a variety of age-appropriate learning approaches, including storytelling, role playing, games, music, creative arts, circle time, and fine and gross motor activities;

• Implement Assessment Quality Improvement (AQI) standards and approved early learning guidelines within classroom programming, routines, activities, and learning environments;

• Utilize Brightwheel as required to support communication, documentation, and family engagement;

• Incorporate Mi’gmaq culture, language, values, traditions, and culturally grounded land-based learning opportunities into programming;

• Observe, document, and support children’s developmental, behavioural, social, communication, and learning needs, including progress toward individualized goals;

• Adapt activities, materials, routines, and teaching strategies and implement individualized program plans in collaboration with families, Development Centre staff, and external professionals, as appropriate;

• Provide active supervision and support children with daily routines and personal care needs, including eating, dressing, toileting, hygiene, and other age-appropriate needs;

• Build and maintain respectful relationships with children, families, and caregivers and communicate regularly regarding children’s development, progress, needs, and supports;

• Work collaboratively with Development Centre staff to support daily operations, including classroom coverage and maintaining appropriate staff-to-child ratios;

• Complete required records and documentation and communicate concerns, incidents, developmental needs, and other relevant information to the Development Coordinator or Supervisor in a timely manner;

• Participate in family and community activities, team meetings, training, and relevant professional development;

• Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and compliance with health and safety requirements, organizational policies, procedures, and reporting requirements; and

• Perform other related duties as required to support the effective operation of the Development Centre and overall team.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from a recognized post-secondary education institution with a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and a minimum of two years of related experience working in a childcare facility, preferably within a First Nation setting;

• A solid understanding of Mi’gmaq culture, values, traditions and socioeconomic conditions along with a demonstrated commitment to supporting the development and well-being of children;

• An equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Fluency in English is required;

• The ability to speak Mi’gmaq is considered an asset;

• A current Criminal Record Check, including requirements for working with the vulnerable sector;

• Prior Contact Check with the Department of Social Development;

• The ability and commitment to working long hours to ensure the division can respond to organizational needs.

SALARY RANGE:

$995.94 - $1,327.07 weekly.

• Health and Dental: employer pays 80% and employee pays 20%

• Maternity top-up, up to 95%
