Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Center Coordinator – Indian Island 15-Month Term

The Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services of New Brunswick Inc. (MCFSNB) is seeking an individual to join their team as Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Center Coordinator in Indian Island for a 15-month term.

The Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Center Coordinator assists the Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Center with the development, and delivery of innovate learning programs and activities designed to equip children with a solid developmental foundation and thirst for continuous learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Consulting with and keeping the Development Supervisor informed of decisions and matters that carry potential risk or that are mandated through legislation, licensing standards, and organizational policies;

• Providing leadership, guidance, coordination and direction to a team of Development Workers, Development Support Workers, Administrative staff, parents and community, to ensure effective program delivery.

• Planning, organizing and participating in the delivery of a broad range of learning and enrichment activities and programs for children, their parents and/or guardians.

• Monitor program delivery and center operations to ensure programs are delivered in accordance with approved curriculum, licensing standards, and safety regulations.

• Ensuring program delivery and teaching strategies adhere to provincial licensing and Aboriginal Head Start standards.

• Support early identification and intervention strategies by monitoring children’s behavioral, social, and developmental progress and coordinating appropriate supports when needed.

• Promote Development Center programs and services within the community and support outreach and engagement initiatives.

• Implement strategies that increase parental, family, and community involvement in children’s education, health, and well-being.

• Employing effective financial management and control strategies to ensure departmental goals are met within allocated operational budgets;

• Working closely with families, community members, Band Administration Educators, the Director of Community Child and Family Services, the Family Group Conference Director and their teams;

• Work collaboratively with other employees of the organization to support program delivery and services.

• Ensuring that effective lines of communication, mutual respect and cooperation are established with all;

• Providing the Early Childhood Supervisor with paperwork, inspections, reports and any record keeping as required to meet the terms and conditions of licensing agreements, legislative obligations and internal policies;

• Understanding the importance of and employs effective performance management, evaluation and monitoring processes to ensure team members are productive and successful in meeting goals and objectives;

• Support staff scheduling and track time-off requests to ensure programming continues without disruption.

• Perform other related duties as required to support program operations and the overall team.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from university with a bachelor in education and specialization in early learning together with a minimum of 3 years related experience working in a licensed Child Care facility (preferably First Nations) that includes serving in a teaching and supervisory capacity.

• An equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and training such as a diploma in early childhood development from a recognized post-secondary education institution with considerable (over 5-10 years) related experience as noted above;

• A solid understanding of Mi’gmaq culture, values, traditions and socioeconomic conditions as well as a demonstrated passion and commitment to enhancing the lives of children are also requirements of the position.

SALARY RANGE:

$1095.54 to $1,458.64 weekly as well as competitive pension and benefit programs.
