The Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services of New Brunswick Inc. (MCFSNB) is seeking an individual to join their team as a Family Support Worker in Metepenagiag.

The goal of Family Support Worker is to support the Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services goals and objectives through effective delivery of community-based Family support programs and services.

The purpose of this position is to support and enhance the lives of children and their families through the provision of a broad range of individual and family support services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Providing and/or assisting in teaching and modelling skills designed to enhance individual self-awareness;

• Teaching individuals and or groups effective coping techniques to better equip them with skills to deal with stressful situations;

• Ongoing research and recommendation of community programs that have the potential to address community needs;

• Delivering a broad range of support services identified within individual or family case/intervention plans in collaboration with the assigned Social Worker;

• Monitoring and reporting on the progress or challenges of families striving to meet the requirements of their case plan and or strengthen their parenting, house keeping and general household management skills;

• Providing services and support to foster families;

• Providing transportation for clients to appointments, meetings, shopping, and other identified activities, as directed by the assigned Social Worker;

• Performing a broad range of administrative functions in support of Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services;

• Performing other related duties as required to support the team.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from high school with training and considerable relevant experience providing social and /or community services to clients in need, or an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

• A solid understanding of Mi’gmaq culture, traditions and socioeconomic conditions.

• The Ability to speak Mi’gmaq is considered an asset.

• Possession of a valid New Brunswick driver’s license with the appropriate designation to transport clients and submission of a clean drivers abstract,

• The ability to qualify for insurance as required in the transportation of clients

• A current Criminal Record Check as required under law to work with the vulnerable sector;

• Prior contact check with Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services;

• The ability to travel throughout the community’s territory as required;

• The ability and commitment to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required, to meet client and organizational needs.

SALARY RANGE:

$1,282.80 weekly

* Preference will be given to qualified candidate of Indigenous ancestry.
