Child Protection Social Worker- Metepenagiag
Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services of New Brunswick Inc. (MCFSNB) is seeking an individual to join their team as Child Protection Social Worker in Metepenagiag.
The Child Protection Social Worker supports the organization’ goals and objectives through effective delivery of mandatory and community-based child protection, case management and prevention programs.
Service and program delivery, including documentation, reporting, and case recording, must adhere to legislated mandates, the organization’s policies, and professional standards of practice while incorporating Mi’gmaq culture, values, and traditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensuring the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable individuals through the delivery of child protection services, including assessment, case management, supportive counselling, and intervention, while consulting with and seeking direction from the Director of Community;
• Keep the Director well informed on decisions and matters that carry the potential of risk, legal action and/or as mandated through legislation, professional standards, and the organization’s approved policies;
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with Band Administration staff, community partners, and external service providers;
• Participate in relevant community events, initiatives, and committees;
• Maintain effective lines of communication, mutual respect, and cooperation;
• Provide, maintain, and safeguard documentation and files pertaining to assessments, reports, case files, and other relevant information in accordance with organizational policies and protocols to meet legislative requirements, audits, and court preparation;
• Serve as a spokesperson and advocate on behalf of children, families, Elders, and vulnerable individuals and represent the organization in court, tribunals, case conferences, and other settings as required;
• Collaborate with and provide professional guidance to Social Service Community Workers to support the effective implementation of case plans and the timely, ethical delivery of child protection and prevention services;
• Participate in and support case conferences, family meetings, community meetings, and interdisciplinary service coordination to promote integrated, child- and family-centered decision-making;
• Work collaboratively with Family Support Workers and Parent Aids delivering direct services, including coordinating and scheduling their service activities, to ensure effective and consistent support to children and families;
• Utilize and maintain accurate, timely documentation within the mCase electronic case management system and other required systems in accordance with organizational standards and legislative requirements;
• Performing other related duties as required to support the team.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduation from university with a degree in Social Work and a minimum of 1(entry level) to 3(working level) years related front line experience in child protection, as well as other relevant aspects of Child and Family Service Program delivery.
• Registered member in good standing of the New Brunswick Association of Professional Social Workers;
• An equivalent combination of training and experience such as graduation from university with a related degree as recognized by the Canadian Association of Social Workers and over 5 years of directly related experience may also be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• A good knowledge of applicable legislation, policy and reporting requirements
• A solid understanding of Mi’gmaq culture, values, tradition and socio-economic conditions are also requirements of the position.
• Fluency in English is required.
• The ability to speak Mi’gmaq is considered an asset.
• A current Criminal Record Check, including requirements for working with the vulnerable sector
• Prior Contact Check with the Department of Social Development
• Possession of a valid New Brunswick class 5 driver’s license and the ability to meet organizational and insurance requirements for the transportation of clients, where required
• The ability and commitment to working long hours to ensure the division can respond to client and organizational needs.
SALARY RANGE:
$1,604 to $1,970. 40 weekly with a 15% Child Protection Adjustment.
