The Mi’gmaq Child and Family Services of New Brunswick Inc. (MCFSNB) is seeking an individual to join their team as a Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Supervisor for Natoaganeg, Metepenagiag and Oinpegitjoig.

The Mi’gmaq Child and Family Development Supervisor supports the division’s goals and objectives through the effective management, oversight and delivery of proactive early childhood education, intervention and developmental strategies, programs and services.

Key to the success of this position is the provision of strong leadership, direction and communication in order to maximize the potential, production and capacity of the Organization’s Family Development Center team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Creating a safe, healthy and culturally appropriate learning environment where children and staff can be at their best and ensures the delivery of programs and services respect, and are in alignment with First Nations culture, values and tradition;

• Managing the Organization’s Family Development Center operations, while consulting with and keeping the CEO informed on decisions and matters that carry the potential of risk and/or as mandated through legislation, licensing standards and the organization’s approved policies;

• Providing oversight including monitoring all aspects of program delivery, budgets and operational requirements of the Organization’s Family Development Center to ensure supervisors and their teams deliver quality professional services in keeping with approved curriculum and teaching standards;

• Working diligently to ensure the Centers are in full compliance with all licensing and safety regulations;

• Delivering programs and teaching strategies following the Aboriginal Head Start Health Canada curriculum as well as the First Nations Education Initiative Corporation’s training and guidelines;

• Implementing a broad range of early detection and intervention strategies are utilized to assess and respond to the behavioral, social, learning progress and needs of children;

• Overseeing the development and implementation of strategies designed to increase parental, family and community involvement and commitment to their children’s education, health and well-being;

• Employing effective financial management and control strategies to ensure departmental goals are met within allocated operational budgets;

• Working closely with team members, member community’s band administration departments of Health and Education, the Director of Community Child and Family Services, the Family Group Conference Director and their teams;

• Relying on other employees of the Organization for programs and services support;

• Ensuring effective lines of communication, mutual respect and cooperation are established with all.;

• Providing the CEO with reports and record keeping as required to meet the terms and conditions of licensing agreements, legislative obligations and internal policies;

• Employing effective performance management, evaluation and monitoring processes to ensure team members are productive and successful in meeting goals and objectives;

• Perform other related duties as required to support the team.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from university with a bachelor’s degree in education and specialization in early learning together with a minimum of 5 years related experience working in a licensed Child Care facility (preferably First Nations) that includes serving in both a teaching and supervisory capacity; or

• An equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and training such as a diploma in early childhood development from a recognized post-secondary education institution with considerable (over 8-10 years) related experience as noted above.

• A solid understanding of Mi’gmaq culture, values, traditions and socioeconomic conditions as well as a demonstrated passion and commitment to enhancing the lives of children are also requirements of the position.

* Preference will be given to qualified candidate of Indigenous ancestry

SALARY RANGE:

To be determined based on experience.

BENEFITS:

• Health and dental benefits: employer pays 80% and employee pays 20%

• Maternity top-up is up to 95%
